Filosofiska anekdoter (Sidney Morgenbesser)

Daily Sun om filosofen Sidney Morgenbesser som avled nyligen: Remembering Sidney Morgenbesser

Friends and colleagues gathered yesterday at 201 East Broadway for the
funeral of Columbia University philosopher Sidney Morgenbesser, who died
over the weekend at age 82. The John Dewey Professor emeritus of
philosophy, who began teaching at Columbia in 1954, was known for his wit,
erudition, and blunt conversational style. A writer once likened him to a
cross between Spinoza and Groucho Marx.
...
The most celebrated Morgenbesser anecdote involved visiting Oxford
philosopher J. L. Austin, who noted that it was peculiar that although
there are many languages in which a double negative makes a positive, no
example existed where two positives expressed a negative. In a dismissive
voice, Morgenbesser replied from the audience, "Yeah, yeah".

Liksom en av bloggarna nedan så har jag hört denna anekdot men visste inte vilka som var inblandade. Andra (och samma) anekdoter om Morgenbesser nämns t.ex. i följande bloggar:

Orange Philosophy: Double Positive

Crooked Timber: Sidney Morgenbesser
Language Log: If P, so why not Q?
