Bibliometrisk analys av memetiken. Och en Mel Brooks-analys
I Full Spread Ahead: A study in memetics literatures gör Justin Robinson en bibliometrisk analys av memetiken.
Dess konklusion är:
Memetics is vast field, still in its infancy, with numerous yet uncharted paths of inquiry. There is a need to define the field more clearly, find ways of operationalizing concepts, and conduct experiments to gain more scientific, useful knowledge about memes (Heylighen, 1999). At the same time, memetics is rich with promise, and its potential within an enormous number of investigations and disciplines is clearly revealed through this study. Memetics, it appears, is here to stay, and as a meme itself, is powerfully equipped to continue to influence our understanding of the world around us.
Av helt andra skäl kan samme Robinsons CIRQUE DU ROCK RIDGE: order and chaos in Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles vara något att läsa:
Mel Brooks’ Blazing Saddles (1974) is a powerful parody of the western genre that uses humor to address real and incisive issues, many of which remain culturally salient today, nearly thirty years after it was first produced. In a variety of ways, the film is about the challenges human beings face in terms of our need to get along with one another in a world that alienates us, not only from others, but also from our own feelings and motives. In other words, Blazing Saddles deals largely with the concept of identity, speaking to the manner in which our (assumed, or constructed) personas can lead to fragmentation, estranging us from those around us, and—to the extent that they constrain our self-expression—limiting the degree to which our experience of life can truly be thought authentic.
